Hartford 10-15-84. I'm baffled that there are only 4 reviews for that show. there are many more but I immediately thought of that one

I gotta put in for 9-25-81, Lehigh Univ.

Maybe b/c there aren't pristine recordings available (or maybe there are and I don't know about it), but this is one of a fairly long list of stellar shows from what is an all around underrated year.

This show is looooooong, for one thing, and has one of the best overall first sets the band did in any era. The ROOSTER, BIRDSONG, CUMBERLAND, ALTHEA , MSN to close are all pretty top notch and then set 2 is a blazer.

One of top 3 Scarlet>Fires tho' I bet a lot of people would disagree...it's not w/out flaws (Jerry flubs 1st verse of Fire but what else is new?) but the Fire that follows is pure gold, with one of the best returns to coda anywhere. The jam from Scarlet INTO Fire takes off in about a million different directions--pauses--re-forms, hits peaks and valleys and peaks again, and lands on FIRE with a solid WHUMP of perfictude (if truthiness can be a word so can that). Oh, and The Scarlet itself is 5 stars.

Beyond that, you get a ripping Samson (not even a big fan, but this one makes me a believer), a a WHEEL of beauty, rocking SugarMag, very soulful PETER, and a SSDD reprise sandwich.

Helluva show and quite overlooked, IMO.

(Oh, and at the risk of having everyone groan and roll their eyes in unison aT this, I beg you all to listen again to the underrated-only-b/c-I-Think_it's-#1 of aLL-times....)

OK. 81 is definitely an overlooked year (as 79 used to be before Jonathan Aiken came along) and I forgot that LeHigh is one of the standouts from that year! I have that tape somewhere but I don't know if I have digi. Man! Good Call.
